On February 11, 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII. Patrick Mahomes will be playing for his third Super Bowl in five years. However, they will walk into the game as two-point favorites and lose the game.
The odds for a game of this magnitude are quite hard to predict. It’s a one-and-done game, so anything is possible. Mahomes will be facing the same team he faced in his first Super Bowl in 2019. On that occasion, the Chiefs ran out 31-20.
Both teams boast a robust offensive line that can convert chances. They also have the second- and third-best scoring defenses. But in one game, everything gets thrown out of the window because the Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event of the year. There will be some butterflies inside the player’s bellies.
The venue matters as well. Vegas, which is the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, is part of the AFC West. It means the Chiefs and the Raiders play at least twice a year.
Mahomes has never lost a game at Vegas, winning all five games. On the other hand, the 49ers, under head coach Kyle Shanahan, have a 1-3 record against the spread at neutral sites.
This will be just the third time a reigning Super Bowl champion will go into the Super Bowl game as the underdog. Only the Dallas Cowboys in 1978 and the Seattle Seahawks in 2014 had similar odds as the Chiefs in 2024.
The Chiefs were favored in all 16 Patrick Mahomes starts during the regular season. However, they will be going into their third game as the underdogs, as per Sportsline Sportsbook.
On the other hand, the 49ers are the only team that has been favored in every single game in a season since 1994. That was the last time they won the Lombardi Trophy.
The Super Bowl LVIII pregame will feature several entertaining events, including an announcement from the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Love Sign, and deaf performers Daniel Durant, Anjel Piñero, and Shaheem Sanchez.
Reba McEntire will be singing the national anthem. Durant will perform the anthem in ASL. Usher and Post Malone will head the halftime show.
