SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (TND) — A man accused of murdering a woman in Maine is being held without bail, and this is not his first arrest.
State police said they arrested 65-year-old Gary Mariner last Thursday, Nov. 2, and charged him with the murder of Danielle Goodwin.
The 52-year-old’s body was discovered in a wooded area of South Portland, back on Sept. 5. The cause of her death has not been released, but the manner was determined to be homicide.
Goodwin’s friends told WGME she was a big part of the area's recovery community, working as a coach, and they are devastated by her death.
She was strong and brave," Stephanie Doyle said. "Probably one of the bravest women that I know."It didn't matter what life was throwing at her. She always had a smile on her face," Kris Dow said.I met her at one of the hardest points in my life and she was instrumental in saving it," Zoe Campbell said.On Monday, Mariner appeared in court virtually.
He had been convicted of gross sexual assault, according to Maine’s sex offender registry, and he’s required to register for life.
