NFL Network’s Jane Slater got down and dirty while reporting from the latest Dallas Cowboys training camp on Monday. The acclaimed journalist practiced her tackling skills against a dummy opponent in Oxnard, California.
The 42-year-old tried to understand how ramming into another player during a match feels. She got her wish fulfilled as she speared her left shoulder into the dummy practice hurdle. The tackle looked good, but she took an awkward tumble. Later that day, Slater shared a clip on Twitter, stating:
“Not gonna lie. Felt this one. @BaldyNFL and I have some work to do, folks,” she wrote. After the tackle, Slater jokingly said, “Oh, I think I got concussed.” Thankfully, nothing too bad happened as she walked off the fall like the champ she is.
Fox Sports stalwart Brian Baldinger was accompanying her, and he had this to say: “You’re good, Jane, you’re good. That’s the way to attack it.” Afterward, she tweeted a few snaps of the incident. Slater wrote, “Dumb ways to die.”

Jane Slater’s fall was not the only video that went viral from the Dallas Cowboys training camp lately. Their new running back, Deuce Vaughn, was the center of attention during the practice.
Vaughn, who stands at five-foot-five, is the shortest player in the NFL since data started being recorded in 2003. He was the 212th overall pick in the sixth round by the Dallas Cowboys. During his induction into the team, Deuce’s father, Chris Vaughn, who is a scout at Dallas, phoned him personally.
Owner Jerry Jones, who bought the franchise back in 1989, said,” I’ve never experienced that in the draft room.” Chris Vaughn was a former college football player himself and later turned to coaching. He’s been part of the Cowboys staff since 2017.
His son, however, is the talk of the town. Several NFL analysts spoke highly of the rookie and speculated that his pick could be the steal of the 2023 NFL Draft. During his last year in college, Vaughn achieved All-American status as he rushed for 1,558 yards and nine touchdowns with 42 catches for 378 yards while playing for the Arizona Wildcats. Even so, he has massive shoes to fill after the Cowboys let go of Ezekiel Elliott. Vaughn is aware that Zeke was the “cornerstone of this franchise.”
